Say it.

Busses stop running at 11:30 on Saturdays. Keep that in mind. It’s a long walk….and thoughts have a tendency of sneaking up on you in the dark.

****

Smile and laugh? Shrug it off with a grin? Cast your eyes downward?

All of the above, and none of it at all. You say what you think and feel. It’s not that difficult, make sure it isn’t the second or third thought that comes up, it should always be the first. Anything else has had time to be processed and analyzed, and will be cold and metallic. It won’t have the slightest hint of truth to it.

Why won’t I say it?

Have you ever gotten someone on your MSN list and you have no idea how they got there? It's creeping me out a bit. Who the hell has access to my account, and if so, what goal do they have in adding new people?

*eerie music starts*

It wouldn't surpise me, I still have a computer that has Jean-Marc's account a the default...knowing me, I probably logged in at someone's house and left the connection on. *sigh* Now, how do I change my password....

I have something horrible to admit. It's taken me a long time to come to grips with it, and it still hurts to this day:

I can't skate.

By the time I finally put on a pair for the first time (10 years old), everyone else was zooming across the ice at amazing speeds. I looked like a moron, stumbling acround, feet bent and moving sloweer than a snail. The whole two hour period was spend moving ina zig-zaggy line as as I crashed over and over again into a snow-drift. It really sucked the excitement out of it.

Since then, I've gone out and skated less times than I have fingers. And now, someone's asked me to go skate on the Rideau with them. All of them are good friends, and they know of my crushing un-canadian disability, but they still want to "support" me.

*wishes for athletic super skating skills*

...for reasons unexplained she loved the monkey-man. [Jan. 7th, 2006|05:47 pm]
I haven’t written a real post in a long time so here goes. I’m feeling pretty tired, but I can’t give in to the “Afternoon Naps” now. It would be the end of me. I’m supposed to go out tonight, and I’ll be dead-man-walking if I give in to the pillows temptation.

As many of you already know, school’s started. Stepping back into those hallowed halls after a three week break is like fever dream. All the sights and sounds that had pushed themselves to the back of my brain are back with a dance to their walk. One minute your waking up at 11:17 AM, the next your on the bus at 6:30 AM, clutching your arms tightly to not let the precious heat out. The same gang is back in town, and the new Studio/Production teacher looks like he’ll be balls of fun. The last teacher was a nice guy, but his speeches where a little too close to Horse Tranquilizers for my taste. I can sleep for free at home.

I need to start reading hardcore again. Like in the old days, in which you couldn’t spot me anywhere without a paperback pushed in my back pocket. It’s getting harder and harder to concentrate on one novel without drifting off into something else. I’m doing baby-steps now. All I gotta do is get through “Essential Amazing Spider-Man VOL.6” and I’m set. Next up I’ll do some Plato.

Ugh. I feel physically ill.

That time of year again... [Dec. 19th, 2005|03:18 pm]
Back from last year, now in electronic form:

HOLIDAY CHEER LIST (Films to watch while basking in the glow of a roaring fire with your friends/loved ones/family and assorted family pets ;)

- The Long Kiss Goodnight

A commonly forgotten (which is why it's at the TOP of the list) action/adventure tale starring Geena Davis and a foul mouthed Samuel Jackson. If your tired of Die Hard and want something even more over-the-top, look no further. There's enough one liners here to get you through till New Years.

- Die Hard 1 and 2

Number one is a classic. Number two is looked upon as a bastard step child. Forget all the reviews, suspend your disbelief (It happens during Christmas? AGAIN!) and enjoy Bruce Willis chewing the scenery without a care in the world.

"Yipee kaye Motherfucker"

Lethal Weapon 1

Mel Gibson, before he got all religious on us. It's an above average shoot-em up with two funny leads and a villain who's acually villainous. The christmas angle is just a flimsly backdrop (Except for a funny little bit near the end) but I'm reccomending this on principle. It dosen't get seen nearly enough.

- Gremlins

A young boy finds true love during the christmas holidays. Oh, and he has to deal with an army of GREMLINS taking over the town. One little warning, this ain't for the kiddies. The cute and cuddly Gizmo tricked a generation into watching razor fanged green monsters getting chopped up in blenders and exploding in Microwaves. The second act is the scariest, and from then on the third and fourth part are pure looney Tunes lunacy. The darkness makes a welcome appearance in the final act, where Mohawk bites the big one in a decidedly gory fashion. Who said PG-13 was safe? TRIVA: The original script (Written by Chris Colombus, of Mrs.Doubtfire and Harry Potter fame) was MUCH darker. It included the mother's head rolling down the stairs and landing at the hero's feet, the gremlins chowing down on the dog, and the big baddie (Mohawk) was actually a transformed GIZMO! I wonder how Corey Feldman bit the big one in that version?

- Scrooged

I love Bill Murray, which makes this reccomendation a no-brainer. This isn't the laid back, near comatoes Bill where used to seeing in his most recent films (Broken Flowers, Life Aquatic, Lost in Translation). It's the sarcastic, quipping and overly NASTY Murray that made us fans in the first place. It's a modern-day retelling of A Christmas Carrol (This list is full of those) but is guaranteed to be the funniest. Suprising, sometimes moving, always hilarious tour de force from everyone involved. If there's one movie you should on this list, it's this one! How can you not love a film that begins with the 60 million dollar man teaming up with with Santa Claus to fight off an army of terrorists in "The night a reindeer died"!

- A Bugs Bunny Christmas

Charles Dickens again, but with bugs and Yosamity Sam in the key roles.

"Meeeeeeery Christmas!"

- A Charlie Brown Christmas

This suprisingly adult story is a perfect antidote to the sugar coated holiday garbage floating around on the airwaves. It poses some interesting questions about consumerism and religion as the base of the december holiday. But don't worry, Snoopy will distract the youngins with some funny slapstick! Lets put "It's Christmas time" one the juke-box again.

- The Grinch that stole Christmas (The CHUCK JONES version)

Second place behind Rudolph as my most watched Christmas TV special. We watch this one as a family every year. The sheer brilliance behind some of Jone's designs and Seus's twisted rhymes will never get old. Forget the live action Jim Carrey abortion and siddle up with this hand drawn classic.

- The Muppets Christmas

Who dosen't love the muppets? YOU!? I bet you hate peace and happiness too! The Great Gonzo is ashamed.

- It's a Wonderfull Life

Cheesy favorite. I don't pop this one on every year, but I do know people that do. Every time a bell tolls an angel gets it's wings...it's a little known fact that everytime a mouthtrap shuts, an angel bursts into flames.

- A Christmas Story

Classic down-to-earth (with a slightly odd bent)yule-tide tale. All he wanted was a B.B gun, but it was too dangerous, he could shoot his eyes out. Funny in a laid back way.

- National Lampoons Christmas Vaction

The Griswold Family celebrate Christmas. Chaos ensues.

- Santa Claus conquers the Martians

The title says it all...

- The Ref

Dennis Leary doing his schtick for an hour and a half in a Christmas setting. Plus, you get Kevin Spacey to sweeten the deal. This one is up their with Scrooged if you want yourself a sobering knock of christmas sarcasm.

- Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer:

If you don't watch this at least once a year, your life has been wasted. Claymation at it's best with an abonimable snowman to boot...What are you waiting for?

- Nightmare Before Christmas

Everything could be said about this film, has been said, so instead of giving a plot recap I'm going to tackle somehting that's been a point of argument for a few people I know. What's the moral of the story? Jack tries Christmas and finds it dosen't work out for him. Is the moral you shouldn't try new things? No. If you recall, in the last song Jack goes "At least I tasted something swell!". In my humble opinion, the moral is "Try new things!!!". It may not always work out, but you should give it a shot no matter what.

Finally,

- A Christmas Carol (Black and White)

It has been showing it's age, but this is old-school favorite still packs a wallop.

***

I'm aware that some titles didn't make the list, and while I would have loved to include some (Sinbad and Arnold duking it out in "Jingle All the Way"?????)I've refrained from making this a EVERY CHRISTMAS MOVIE THAT EVER EXISTED compilation. It's my honest reccomendations. Feel free to e-mail me with sugegestions and excuses about how much of an idiot I was for missing something...

Thanks to Dan and Phil and all the people on the boards for their help!

Cheers,

,Justin

"Turn on the lights, and look under your bed. There just might be a gremlin in your house." [Dec. 17th, 2005|11:23 am]
[mood | cheerful]
[music |Gremlins Theme Song! (While watching "Scrooged")]

Vacation time is here! Hip-Hip Hurrah!

The exams weren't that bad. They where akin to SCREAMING AT THE TOP OF YOUR LUNGS WHILE GOUGING YOUR EYES OUT WITH A SHARPPENED SPOON.

In the spirit of christmas, we learned a few lessons like...multiple-choice questions suck. It only sounds like a brilliant idea: How can you get it wrong? The answer is ON the PAGE. But it's the really the worst thing you can do to a student. You think you have the right answer but just before you mark it, another answer appears that COULD be right. WHICH ONE IS IT? A OR B? OR MAYBE IT'S C) A AND B Arghhhh! And contrary to popular belief, you can still become a teacher if haven't had any prior education (Say, kindergarden). One exam totally made up of gibberish words and inccorect senTUces...but I guess we should cut the writer some slack. Alchohol does that to a person.

DDR is the devil. For a solid half hour I hopped from foot to foot in an attempt to get anything higher than a D. No luck. I think we played about ten rounds, and I'm suprised the machine didn't shock me to end my pitifull dance-free existence. Krista and MJ had themselves a good laugh while they pummeled me with solid A's. The only thing that got me through it was the thought that...KING KONG lay ahead.

***
What can I say? It's an epic film. The three hour running time is proof of that. But after all this hype and media overload I'm still surprised that it lived up to all my expecations. Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's a film. It has problems, major and minor one's. The major one's are only inches from being minor, any judicious editor/special effects whiz could fix them in a jiffy.

One of my MAJOR nitpicks is not the first act (as reviewers will have you think) but the stuff that happens on the boat afterwards. While I was watching it, I did enjoy the somewhat cliche dialogue between Jimmy (Jamie Bell) and his Mr.Hayes. It would work, except they NEVER pay off the relationship off. One major emotional beat DOES take place, but it seems like the final part of Jimmy's arc was cut at the last minute. We spend so much time with him and never bother to learn if he changed in any way after all this. One simple scene would have fixed this problem, so here's holding out for an extended edition DVD.

My minor nitpicks are obvious on screen: Cool Stampede/LameFX , Kong's last stand last WAY too long, and a few too many sequences are entirely composed of Naomi Watt's looking deep in the big Ape's eyes. We get that they have a connection...MOVE ON!

Now that we got all the negative out of the way, I can talk about the positive. WOW-WEE does this film ROCK! My number one fear was Jack Black going all crazy on us. The last "serious" role he did was in The Jackal (with Bruce Willis) and his death scene was the most disturbing/laughable bit of the whole film. Now, in King Kong he was going to dip his toe in dramatic acting once again. But have no fear, the character of Carl Denam fits Jack like a glove.

Kong VS the V-REXES! W-O-W

The film has two really intense scenes that should have knocked it up to at least 14A. First is the first encounter with the natives. In the row in front of me, a family had to shoo out the little kids because they were getting to scared. Secondly, the SPIDER PIT sequence. The images will scar a generation of kids that are expecting a jolly monkey film.

The ending is emotional (if a little overought). At least half the audience was in tears. One boy was bawling a the top of his lungs.

"The nose knows." [Dec. 6th, 2005|01:03 pm]
Yesterday, I got paper back with "B" circled on the front page. My last one was awarded a D-. What's my secret? One of them was completely written in BOLD font. Can you guess which one got the higher grade?

I was introduced to yet ANOTHER random person today that became (in the span of a few minutes) someone that I had almost met a few times... Turns out, not only was she straight up 100% French, but her BEST FRIEND was from Casselman and that she went to alot of parties that I WAS AT!!! Isn’t that a COINCIDENCE?

God. Strike. Me. Down. Now. Can't I find something new?

I offended a few people with my last entry (*coughJasoncough*) so I’ll throw in my apologies right here. For histories sake, Thursday's little incident was resolved without violence. It didn’t exactly go WELL, but it was resolved.

Slow Motion Car Crash (You can't look away) [Dec. 2nd, 2005|12:44 am]
[mood |nauseated]
[music |OMWF- Walk through the fire, Something to Sing About! Where do we go from here? and Coda.]

(All sentences in "" are actual quotes from the night)

"No"

Is that so hard to comprehend?

"I told you not to come."

It's time to bail, blow this pop stand, hand in your hat and call it quits. Why don't you? Because your stupid.

Hindsight is 20/20 ain't it?

"Shut the fuck up you moron"

My cup of hot-choclate turned out to be 75% rainwater.

It's late, but like all major cities, the streets of Ottawa are lit up like a christmas tree. I'm walking with a group of total strangers (Really nice people, in a forced and awkard [on my part] way) and my panic meter is past the red. The term is "out of your depth" is bouncing around my skull. This isn't supposed to happen. My feet are moving forward on their own accord. Left, right, left, right, left right. I should just turn around and run in the other direction. Maybe she'll forgive me if I back out now. I did damage, but it can be undone. Take the "Get out of Jail" card while it's there. Get home and collapse into my bed to awake at 6:00 AM.

It's a safe plan, except for the getting home part. I didn't anticipate Jason bailing at the last minute. No car. No idea. No clue.
If I stick with the gang, they'll eventually lead me to a 95, and that wouldn't be too bad would it? All I have to do is stay out of her hair....No, screw it, I should take a chance and escape while I still can. Go off on my own and grab the first bus I see.

It's really easy to look back at the thing I "should-have-done".

"I can drive you there but that's it. I need to come back. I'll catch ya next time."

In some alternate universe, I don't go to the Improv show. I turn down Jason's offer of a ride and help him out with his music-video instead. I apologize to Malloy for lashing out at her, and we crack a few jokes about my outburst. We spend six hours shooting twenty seconds of footage in studio. I ride home with a very drunk Andrew feeling guilty about missing Jess's show. I make a mental note to e-mail to ask her how it went.

The day ends with most of us living happily ever after.

"Your burnt, your goose is cooked, your screwed, done, finis, bye-bye. That enough backing up? "

I was watching a movie last week, and turned to my friend halfway through:

"How can someone NOT realize they're doing something so stupid? You'd think that they'd figure it out eventually and stop."

Irony hurts.

"I'm not good with names."

The short version goes: I don't listen to someone. I mistake her saying "Don't come because I don't want you to be bored" as "I WANT you to come, but I don't know how to ask". Whoa, my translation machine is on the fritz. I end up going, alone, due to personal problems. The person avoids me. I should take the hint. Instead, I keep pressing...like an idiot...knowing that every word, every gesture, every breath is another extra foot into my grave.

This is all wrong, but it's too late, and I end up waiting alone. Cold and alone. It's snowing outside.

I'm sorry.

The bus is fifteen minutes late. My brain sums up the night with one word that I can't help from saying out loud:

**Brief Biographical Pause*

My name is Justin Patrick Decloux.
I was born in Orleans, Ontario, Canada on November 1st 1987. At the age of 12, my mother moved me and my brother to the Casselman. Casselman is a French farming town, and every day passed like nails on a chalkboard. My “formative” years were spent making movies, laughing uncontrollably and talking myself into trouble. Four month ago I moved back to Orleans to live with my father and began a post-secondary education in TV/Broadcasting. I have YET to break any bones.

I’ve been accused of being silly, crazy and mentally unstable (In a good way). I blame Television, comic books and cheap paperback novels. Especially the work of Douglas Adams, Terry Pratchett, Stephen King, The Simpsons, Seinfeld, Sam Raimi, Terry Gilliam, Monty Python, Bruce Campbell, Family Guy (Season 1), The Three Stooges, Kevin Smith, Frank Miller, Spirou et Fantasio, John Woo (His pre-Hollywood Days), Lau Kar Leung, Ching-Sing Tung, Charles in Charge (!), Happy Days, Sesame Street, The Care bears, and 80’s pop rock.

***End Brief Biographical Pause***

The music video is up and running.
Nothing out of the ordinary happened while filming at Silver City. The only speed- bump was boredom and frustration, but that’s to be expected.
We were handed an unexpected last minute twist when our shooting schedule shrunk from 12:00 AM-6:00 AM TO 12:00AM-2:00 AM. The pressure actually helped us out in the long run, and we ended up finishing EARLY. My team got into the moment afterwards with the help of illegal substances. As per usual, I abstained from the festivities like a good little anarchist.

Someone brought in FIVE extras. All they did was sit in the theater, blank looks on their faces, as we spent thirty minutes setting up a shot. The goodness of our heart forced us to treat them to some coffee at the end of the night. My conscience rears it’s ugly head once again.

Tomorrow, everyones coming over to my house to shoot the COP/KUNG-FU Sequence. It’s either going to be a great time or a horrid one. I’m hoping for the former (or is it latter?)

I always get those two confused.

***
As per expected, RENT is supposed to be a festive pile of crap. I lost faith when they announced that Chris Colombus (Mrs.DoubtFire) was directing. I’ve never heard a song from the Broadway version, but I was still crossing my fingers that we'd get an average film musical. Dosen't look like it happened.

Saturday, a full day off...Yipee!

Today was, well, I'll let the following speak for itself.
***

6:45 AM

The phone is the first thing that greets me as I step in from the cold. My Dad's voice comes in shacky through cell phone static.

"Hey, Justin. I know your go out on Fridays, but could you do me a favor and feed the dog?"

"No problem Dad."

"Oh...Thanks...It's a big help."

"What are you doing Friday dadee-o?"

"Well....we're...going to the U2 concert."

The same U2 concert that we had decided would be more cost effective to miss? I was bummed because I had saved up my money to buy a ticket, but my Dad didn't want to go due to the price. And now...it seems that he went and bought two tickets at double the admission price. He and my step-mom we're going.

All I could say was

"OK"

and hang up the phone.

Two people having a good time is better than none...Right?

***

***

I'm cleaning the basement, when the vaccum suddenly starts to die on me. I open up the can to make sure everything's all right. It's an old one, so I have to be carefull when removing the bag to keep it from...

BOOM!

Dust flies into my face, clothes, eyes and mouth. After a few minutes of laboured coughing I rush off to take ANOTHER shower to get it out of my pores.

I still smell of burnt dog hair.

***

At 7:34, I get a call from Jessica. Improv just finished and she's calling from a bus station. I'm a few words away from offering to jump on a bus to catch up with her, but I stop myself. We were supposed to meet up at around 6:00, but now, it's just to late. She's probably exausted and wants get home. Yea, it sucks but what else is their to do?

I wish her a good night.

*sigh*

"Jimmy quit, Jody got married." [Nov. 22nd, 2005|10:46 am]
[mood | worried]
[music |Flaming Lips - Fight Test]

Saturday, I met someone I hadn't spoken to in years. It took ne moment to regognize her, but everyhing clicked when she mentionned some career advice I had given out. I smiled (vaguely remembering that conversation)and said I still stick to it: Circus Performing is the future! It's a solid career move. She laughed and we promised to get together soon.

Sunday was spent out on the town with Jess, my mom and my brother. It was the first time Jess met my mum, but I wasn’t worried. They both got along famously. During the course of the night, I (through sheer luck) avoided making a HUGE fool of myself, I only screwed up around ten times...It's hard keeping a straight face sometimes.

"Harry Potter and the Goblet of fire" was good, if a little too fast-paced for people unfamiliar with the book. Some long-winded spectale sequences should have been cutout to make room for clearer plot points. Plus, the movie got the story ¾ wrong…but I’ll point you in Jessica's direction if you want all THOSE details.

Monday was another hellishly boring day. I skipped out on English 1/8 through the class with Adam. I couldn’t sit through thirteen oral presentations. It was humanly impossible. My soul was at stake.

Cheers,
